The Band

Shuggie Brown – (Guitar & Vocals)

Shuggie started playing guitar by ear at an early age. Heavily influenced by blues, funk, classic and southern rock Shuggie joined “Blackjack” and played all the nightclubs on the Southeast circuit during the late 70’s & early 80’s as well as opening for several major acts. Shuggie then founded the band “Roughcut”.  The band played all the nightclubs, festivals and corporate gigs in the Atlanta area. After moving to the heavily rockin blues based city of Houston, Shuggie started a successful Texas Blues based band called “The Phat Fleas”.  After leaving Houston and settling in Charlotte in 2008, Shuggie started “Shuggie Brown”, which was possibly the best Rockin Blues based Roadhouse Style band in North Carolina. Shuggie now brings a phat funky playing style to the music of the Mojo Healers.

Ramon “The Doc” Ruiz-Drums Percussion & Vocals

With over four decades of rock solid experience behind the kit, Ramon “The Doc” Ruiz is a self taught drummer making a triumphant return to the music scene. His drumming journey began in Puerto Rico, where his passion for drums and percussion first took root, inspired by the powerful styles of drumming legends John Bonham, Steve Smith and Vinnie Appice. Their thunderous precision and groundbreaking grooves heavily influenced Doc’s playing, shaping his dynamic and energetic approach. Known for his precision, power and passion he has been the backbone of numerous bands, including acclaimed Kansas and Journey tribute acts. From arena anthems to heartfelt ballads, Doc’s drumming, honed through dedication and pure love for the craft, has captivated audiences and brought iconic rock classics to life. Now venturing into the blues scene, he brings a fresh yet seasoned approach to this soulful genre, infusing his signature energy and versatility into it’s rich rhythms. His comeback promises to be a celebration of his enduring talent and a reminder why he’s a drummer worth watching.

Franc Robert-Guitar & Vocals

“Franc Robert sweats and sways onstage, his nimble fingers dancing along his guitar neck as he moans and howls the blues. It’s still early on a Friday night, but already about 25 blues fans have gathered around the stage in Buckingham Blues Bar. They sip beer as they bob their heads to Robert’s high-energy tunes about love, heartbreak and his “lemon-headed” ex-wife. “This next song fits this bar so perfectly,” says the grinning, ponytailed bluesman from New Port Richey. “It’s called ‘Groovin’ on the Outskirts of Town.’”
— Charles Runnells,  Ft. Myers News-Press

“Overall, this Florida musician knows his blues, and isn’t afraid to show you. Listeners will be able to get a full dose of blues styles with a stripped-down sound that gives a raw and powerful thread that binds the album together.”
